How to Connect Your Device to Subaru Bluetooth
There are many ways to connect your phone to your Subaru vehicle in Sandy, UT. But one of the most popular is to connect it via Bluetooth. Bluetooth allows drivers to make calls, receive texts and notifications, and even play music. But how do you connect your phone via Bluetooth? If you need help with your Subaru’s Bluetooth settings, keep on reading.
Pairing Your Phone and Syncing Options
iPhone Pairing
The following steps are needed to help you pair your Apple device:
- The first step to connecting your iPhone to your Subaru vehicle around West Jordan, UT, is to double-check that Bluetooth is activated on your phone. Head into your settings app and navigate to the Bluetooth option. From there, either confirm that Bluetooth is activated or turn it on if it isn’t.
- Next, from your Subaru’s infotainment, click the “Phone” app. Your system will then ask if you wish to add a phone. Click “Yes.” Once you do so, it will begin to pair your phone.
- From your phone, you will see the name Subaru show up in your paired devices list. Click this option, and then you will see a PIN number appear on both your phone and on the Subaru system. If these numbers appear to be the same, you can click on “Pair” on your phone. Now, your device should be paired via Bluetooth to your Subaru.
- From there, your Subaru will ask if you wish to sync your contacts. If you wish to do so, click “Yes.”
- Now your iPhone is officially paired with your Subaru’s infotainment system.
Android Pairing
Pairing your Android phone to your Subaru vehicle is very similar to how it works with Apple devices.
- The first step to pairing your Android phone is to make sure Bluetooth is activated on your phone. Head to your settings and navigate to your Bluetooth or connections settings. Bluetooth should be turned to “On.” If it isn’t, then please activate it.
- Next up, you will want to click on the “Phone” app on your Subaru’s infotainment system. If there is no device connected, the system will ask if you want to connect a device. Click “Yes,” and your system will begin to pair with your phone.
- On your phone’s Bluetooth screen, you will next see your Subaru appear under the “Available devices” section. Once again, after you click on your Subaru vehicle, there will be a PIN number. If that number matches the PIN number on the infotainment system, then you can click “OK” on your phone.
- Next, you will be prompted to “Download” your contacts. If you wish to do so, go ahead and click “Download.”
- Now, your Android phone is officially connected to your Subaru’s infotainment system via Bluetooth.

There are various versions of head unit/radio in 2014 depending on which vehicle model they have. If they have NO touch screen, the CD/AUX button will cycle them through CD, USB, Bluetooth, and Auxiliary.
If they do have a touch screen, there would be a Bluetooth icon they can select. With a touch screen connecting is pretty easy. If not, they have to use a series of voice commands to connect: in either case, I recommend visiting the concierge team at Mark Miller Subaru so that they can help you if you cannot get it set up on their own.
2012 outback, android phone. Can you please help me play music from android phone through car speakers. I know bluetooth works because calls come through car speakers and navigation, from phone, will sound through car speaker only during a call.

thanks,
Subaru knows that there is a problem in connecting bluetooth with android devices for 2012 Outback audio systems. I have needed to take my car in for service to set up a USB cord connection to get each phone connected. Yet with my newest, I have a Schomp (Denver) rep who says ‘I wasn’t young enough to drive when the 2012 car came out’. Without any apparent realization that I have needed to come into the dealer to pair 3 new phones over the past 11 years, he keeps instructing me to come in so that he can help me pair the phone. It pairs, but as you know, then you need to confirm it again each time the car electronics are again activated. The irony here, despite the fact that this young man stresses that he ‘couldn’t even drive’ when the car was sold, and tries to sell me a new car instead, is that Subaru is an excellent car for logevity. I happen to have 3 cars, so mileage is divided between the 3. Accordingly, I only have 80K on my Subbie. But this issue is getting old. The other 3 times, I kept being told that a patch would be forthcoming…but this time, the rep didn’t even realized that the problem exists. Please do advise how I can get my new Samsung Z Fold 4 permanently paired, and whom I need to contact to competently do so – if this is anything like the other 3, it will require a trip to the dealer and a hard wire connection. Just don’t recommend that I get stuck with a very well-meaning rep who tries very hard to be ‘kind’ but is so sure that there is a simple fix that he will not even connect me to the service dept.
Hi Janice! Have you tried pairing other phones and is the only phone having the issue the Samsung? If this issue is happening with other devices as well it could be an issue with the bluetooth connection within the the vehicle. our recommendation would be to schedule a diagnostic appointment with the Service center at your local Subaru Dealer as the technicians would be able to find a faulty chip.
My phone keeps separating from my 2023 outback, and having the hardest time reconnecting because of week internet. Can I connect wit a wire so connectivity is possible and more reliable
Having problems properly connecting my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 with our 2024 Subaru Outback.
I get through Step 3 of your process above, and then there is no response. No request to download Contacts. No success message. After a LONG time, either the Samsung gives up or the Subaru gives up. Have tried this various ways, but it seems the Subaru Bluetooth software gets hung after the PIN OK.

It looks car play cannot be connected. Shows needs to plug out and wait for a while and plug in. But I used two cables. It doesn’t work.
