Subaru Global Platform: The Foundation for Safety and Performance
Subaru vehicles are reliable, rugged models that elevate your outdoor adventures around Herriman. Part of the reason why they are so reliable and last so long is the Subaru Global Platform, first engineered and designed in 2016 and implemented in the 2017 Subaru Impreza followed by the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek.
Find out more with our Subaru Global Platform review, where we go over the company’s vehicle design that serves as the foundation for safety and performance across all of its new vehicles and used models.
Subaru Global Platform Features
The automaker has three main objectives to meet by creating is foundation for safety and performance.
- Increasing straight-line stability
- Reducing noise and vibration
- Boosting ride comfort
To these ends, the main Subaru Global Platform feature is a vehicle frame that serves as the main structural support for all of its vehicles, from the sporty Impreza sedan to the Ascent SUV. The platform is designed to keep everyone inside safe from accidents to meet strict safety standards by 2025.
Here are other aspects of the Subaru Global Platform features inherent in the new design:
- High-strength steel to make the frame 70 to 100 percent stiffer, which helps make the vehicle more stable.
- Improved joining processes to reduce noise and road vibrations.
- Mounting the rear anti-roll bar directly to the body, rather than a subframe, to make a lower center of gravity for better handling and 50 percent improved roll resistance.
The Subaru Global Platform’s vehicle frame can absorb 40 percent more impact energy compared to prior models, making the interior cabin safer in an accident. These Subaru Global Platform features are made with passive and active safety in mind. In some markets, there are even pedestrian safety airbags.
Subaru Global Platform Features for Flexibility
Our Subaru Global Platform review is also to say that the automaker is becoming more environmentally friendly without skimping on safety. This automotive architecture is used to design new vehicles and future vehicles based on what customers want. Each factory and assembly plant uses similar vehicle frames, making them more efficient and flexible when creating quality vehicles that customers want.
