What You'll Need
- A Subaru vehicle equipped with push-button start
- Your Subaru key fob
Step-by-Step: How to Program Your Subaru PIN Code
- Unlock your Subaru using your key fob and open the rear gate. Stop it halfway open.
- Locate the unlock button above the license plate housing.
- Find the PIN code button about 12 inches to the right of the unlock button.
- Press and hold the lock button on your key fob and simultaneously press the PIN code button. You’ll hear a series of chirps—this means you're ready to program.
- Press the lock button once. This tells your Subaru that a number is coming next.
- Using the PIN code button, tap it the number of times corresponding to your first digit. For example, to enter a "3," press the button three times. Wait for the chirp after each number.
- Repeat this process for all five digits of your personal code. After the fifth digit, you’ll hear a series of chirps.
- Repeat the entire five-digit code again to confirm. After successful entry, your vehicle will blink its taillights to confirm the code has been saved.
Using Your PIN Code to Unlock the Vehicle
To unlock your Subaru without the key fob, simply:
- Tap the PIN code button the number of times that corresponds to the first digit of your code.
- Wait for a chirp after each entry before moving to the next digit.
- After all five numbers are entered correctly, your Subaru will unlock.
Helpful Tips
- Choose a number combination you’ll remember—but avoid easily guessed codes like 12345.
- Program the PIN code in a quiet area so you can clearly hear the chirps.
- If you make a mistake, start over from the beginning of the sequence.
