Impreza versus Sentra

When you're shopping for a new car, it's absolutely essential that you do your due diligence and make sure to research the important details. For instance, while price is certainly a vital factor in your purchasing decision, and while some models may have impressive features, it's actually what that particular vehicle lacks that can make all the difference when comparing it to the Subaru Impreza. Read on and let us explain.

The Sentra and Impreza actually both deliver a combined estimated fuel efficiency of 33mpg. However, considering that the Impreza offers all-wheel drive -- which can affect estimated mpg, and the Sentra does not, the Impreza is the far better value buy. Given the weather that we enjoy here in the greater Salt Lake City area, we'd much rather pay a little bit more for the reassurance that comes from Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive -- a standard feature on the 2018 Impreza. With AWD you get superior stability and traction in all manners of weather, from light rain to heavy snows -- and can you really put a price on safety?

The 2018 Impreza features a 2.0-liter 4-cylidner engine that teams with a 5-speed manual transmission to generate 152 horsepower and 145-pound feet of torque, outperforming the 124 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque that the Nissan's 1.8-liter 4-cylinder puts out.

These days, it's practically mandatory that your vehicle also serve as a mobile entertainment center/office. Fortunately, the Impreza offers the Subaru STARLINK Multimedia system as a standard feature, including such amenities as Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and Pandora® integration as well as STARLINK apps that can deliver navigation, news, podcasts and more. With hands-free smartphone operation and wireless pairing, you can stay in touch with ease -- while keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

The Sentra gives its drivers Bluetooth® streaming, an AM/FM/CD audio system with color display, an auxiliary input jack and, well, not much else.

As we mentioned earlier, the Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive is a feature that we believe is an extremely important one for our friends and neighbors from the Salt Lake City, Provo, Sandy and Murray areas. In snow, rain or uneven terrain, the system sends power to those wheels with traction -- providing outstanding grip in all manners of scenarios. Frankly, the Sentra just doesn't offer the same sense of security, especially in sketchy weather.

Both the Impreza and the Nissan offer standard anti-lock brakes, dual front airbags, front-seat side impact airbags and side guard door beams, but the Impreza also stands out by offering standard daytime running lights -- which the Sentra does not.
